About three years ago, I decided to purchase the entire “Perry Mason” TV series on DVD. It was a rather expensive proposition at the time as “Perry Mason: The Complete Series” had not yet been released. But over the course of about a year I purchased the entire set of 18 covering all 9 seasons. Still, this was money very well spent.
Perry Mason is a show of creative story lines that keep you guessing. What's more, it's a fascinating glimpse into second-generation TV programs, when the competition was based on plot and intrigue and less on copycat styling. Mixing the characters up from the the 1960's Perry Mason Show did not help to produce clarity in my viewing experience. For example, in this version, Perry Mason is a detective, Paul Drake is a cop, and the lawyer is a new character altogether. Frankly, I am sorry I ever purchased this DVD.
It is impossible for me to recommend this TV series. Mixing the characters up from the the 1960's Perry Mason Show did not help to produce clarity in my viewing experience. For example, in this version, Perry Mason is a detective, Paul Drake is a cop, and the lawyer is a new character altogether. Frankly, I am sorry I ever purchased this DVD. A gentle suggestion to uploaders of the series, please don't clip the introductory or concluding theme music from the episodes. That intensely familiar and immensely famous theme music ("Park Avenue Beat" by Fred Steiner) is an integral part of the Perry Mason listening experience.
